Automatic responders

Posted by productreview on March 6, 2006

Auto Who?
Not a lot of people seem to know what these do, though the purpose can be guessed to some degree from the words themselves. Automatic responders or Autoresponders as are more commmonly known, are in their simpliest form, a set of online tools that would enable a user to automatically respond to an email that was sent to them.

Beautiful Argule mountains - PeruSo, say for example, you are going on a holiday to Peru, and have no intention of answering any of your email while you’re busy losing thousands of calories in the beautiful mountains of Peru.
If your friends are not dear to you, don’t tell them that you went on vacation and simply allow them get frustrated that you are not answering your email.
When you get back, you can gaily explain that Lithium ion batteries don’t work real well at 19,000 feet and above. That explanation might hold a few of them until they google it.
But is that any way to treat business clients or close family? Well depends on family… lol…Probably not. A short but polite autoresponder set up to automatically reply to any email that comes to you while your treking about the Andes would probably be far more informative…

As an informal Autoresponder it might say:

I am currently measuring the speed of the glaciers in the Ande Mountains, and consequently won’t be able to respond to you until my GPS starts working again.

Warm Regards,

And that would be that. Autoresponder in a nutshell!

But Autoresponders are used in business too, and sometimes they are linked together to form an autoresponder series.

Tomorrow, more on business autoresponders and some of the larger companies that host them.
Aweber, Getresponse and are the three major companies that supply automatic responder services.

If you can’t wait until tomorrow, there is an article here on How Autoresponders Improve Customer support.

Automatic Responders? Sounds formal. We have been using for our Amazing Automatic Responders (lol 🙂 or Autoresponders as they call them) for over a year now to great success. We have a 5 email follow up that helps us build a relationship with our customers and of course, subtley pushes our offered services.

If you want to run a successful operation online, Autoresponders are a definate Must-Have!

This stuff sounds interesting. I don’t know much about Autoresponders, but will look forward to reading more about these “amazing automatic responders”…

    Ha ha.

On a very much serious note – Can this help me with my hairdressing business? If so, how would I use this technology?

    Hi Lorrie,
I see that no one has answered your question yet.

You asked – “Can this help me with my hairdressing business? If so, how would I use this technology?”

Most businesses realize that one of their most important assets is their customer base. However, this realization in most cases does not carry the importance that it should.

If the customer base is one of the most important assets, why is it that most businesses are unable to report when the last time was that they sent either direct mail or email to their entire customer base.

Even businesses that know this, can often be characterized as emperor’s children without clothes.

So, do you have a list of customer emails for all of your clients?

Are you able to let them all know within a few minutes about vacancies in your schedule?

    These are all broadcast functions.

But autoresponder functionality would kick in when a new customer starts with you and you talk to them about a schedule for treatments.

You could then put said customer on the bad-hair-need-treatment autoresponder. And this autoresponder would send email to the customer days in advance of the appointment to let them know that hot-oil-treatment number2 with revitalization is coming up in a few days.

Anyway, just my 3 cents worth.

Good luck with the hairdressing autoresponder series.

  4. Somehow i missed the point. Probably lost in translation 🙂 Anyway … nice blog to visit.

    cheers, Algorithmically.
